This month, meet Jake Tenenbaum. Jake has been with us for over a year now and is based out of Dynamic Yield’s office in New York City. He is a Senior Customer Success Manager, where he works with tier 1 clients, providing them with the TLC they need to successfully drive personalization within their organizations and boosting their bottom lines. Always going above and beyond, Jake is dedicated to ensuring his clients make strategic decisions and form lasting connections with their own customers, visiting their offices, training them on new features and product offerings, and being a reliable support system when they’re in a bind.
Let’s learn more about him…
What is your role at Dynamic Yield? What does your day-to-day look like?
I’m a Senior Customer Success Manager (CSM), working with large and enterprise-level eCommerce clients. I spend several hours a week talking directly with my clients, advising them on new strategies they can work into their testing plans. This includes providing tactical advice on ways they can serve unique and personalized experiences to each and every customer, connecting consumers to their content and products.
Additionally, I often partner with the Marketing team to find ways to highlight all of the amazing work my clients regularly accomplish and use my free time to come up with new tools and solutions to improve the workflows of CSMs.
No two days are ever the same, and in addition to my responsibilities, I love pitching in around the office – welcoming and meeting new employees, planning welfare projects and events, and most recently, helping out with our recent New York office move.
What led you to Dynamic Yield and the Customer Success team?
I love analyzing audiences, and with a background in AdTech, I spent about five years helping clients with Facebook Marketing. I liked the idea of serving personalized content to consumers, but after a while, I became uneasy with some of the practices used by Facebook and Instagram for ad targeting and knew I needed a change.
Dynamic Yield and personalized marketing opened up a whole new world for me, providing me with everything I loved about advertising without compromising my personal ethics. And the Customer Success team is nothing short of exceptional. I’m constantly inspired by our team, with each member coming from such unique and diverse backgrounds. This allows us to create a space for collaboration, sharing unique perspectives and points-of-view we all can utilize on a daily basis.
How is your current role unique from your past professional experiences?
Dynamic Yield has pushed me to do the most strategic thinking I have ever done in my entire career. I’ve worked for other SaaS companies in the past, as well as with in-house agencies, but this company always encourages me to think smarter and harder.
What is your favorite part about working directly with customers? And what are some of the challenges you’ve faced?
I’ve always loved when my clients are recognized for their work. Seeing them smile, beam with pride, and receive praise makes it all worth it, making me feel like a proud parent!
That being said, it’s not always a walk in the park. I’m always encouraging my customers to personalize everything. Some like to take the easy way out (you know who you are!), but I try to consistently point out the correct ways to build customer experiences, and while it sometimes takes more time and effort, it’s always more rewarding in the long-term.
What excites you about personalized marketing?
I truly believe everyone wants to be “seen.” I love when my clients tell me their customers feel recognized as a whole, rather than only according to one or two affinities or preferences they’ve expressed, minting better brand-consumer relationships.
What have been some of the most memorable moments during your tenure at Dynamic Yield?
I’m proud of so much of the work I’ve done over the past year. A few highlights include winning two separate Proof of Concepts against competitors, getting e.l.f. – a major beauty brand I work with – featured in Glossy, and hearing that my work made it to the desks of CEOs leading some of the biggest retail brands in the country.
Additionally, some of my favorite moments have been the times I’ve shared with my team, like when I lost in a CSM competition during a global offsite and when I hosted our NYC team at my apartment for a local offsite (shoutout to Brooklyn for having more spacious apartments)!
What does Jake look like when he’s not wearing his CSM hat? What are your hobbies outside of work / how do you spend your free time?
When I’m not partnering with clients, I have a number of passion projects and organizations I engross myself with. I’m on the NYC Leadership Committee and Global Team for Out in Tech, an LGBTQ+ tech nonprofit, where I help build and bridge gaps in the LGBTQ+ global tech community via a Slack workspace, in addition to several monthly events we host here in New York. We even hosted an event with Dynamic Yield, which you can read about here. I also spend some time on the side working with a number of direct-to-consumer companies, helping them find creative ways to scale and grow.
In my true downtime, I love going to Broadway shows, hitting the gym in the morning or a spin class night, checking out new museum exhibits around the city during the weekend, catching techno or disco-house music shows, and traveling (getting ready to visit country #45!).
